  1. I hope all had a Happy Halloween and a wonderful All Saint's Day.

We will be starting new chapters in Social Studies and Science.

In Science we will begin Chapter 16, "Simple Machines",continuing with our unit on energy. Look for homework Thursday night calling for your child to find simple machines around the house. (There are more than you might think)

In Social Studies we will be traveling to the "New World" and New York, right into our backyard with early explorers.

Prayer is so powerful and important in our lives. The children will exploring why we pray and understanding the different ways we pray. Thank you for your guidance in this area already. The children are always thoughtful,
caring, and reverent when we pray.

Keep up the great work with the multiplication tables! The children are improving each day. We will be plugging along, learning about fact families and onto division. Without quick knowledge of the multiplication tables things will become difficult.

We will finish up rereading, reviewing and have a test on our reading selection "My Name is Maria Isabel" this week. Please remember vocabulary words are in your child's binder and answers to reading questions are in their reading notebook.

We will be also finishing up with learning about
simple subjects and simple predicates, we will have a test in the near future.

  2. This week will be a "short" week. With Thursday off, an added Music class, and the trip to see "Pocahontas" on Friday, getting things done should prove to be a challenge.

Tomorrow is the quiz on "Simple Machines" vocabulary. At this point the test on this chapter will be on Wednesday.

Our test on Prayer will be on Tuesday, remember to have your child review the saints listed on the study guide.

Keep up with the multiplication tables, we are working on division and "fact families", and how they all fit together. We will also be doing more work on story problems, where there might be too much or too little information.

In Social Studies, we will take a more in-depth at Henry Hudson, being that the quadricentennial celebration of his trip up the Hudson River was only a short time ago. Tuesday night, ask your child who Robert Juet was and why historic journals prove to be so important. If all works out, we will have a quiz on Henry Hudson on Friday.

In Reading, we will read the selection "Lou Gehrig: The Luckiest Man". Vocabulary for that will be given out tomorrow.

    Have a great week!
